Moving can be stressful, especially when you’re moving out of your childhood home for the first time. When I got into Spokespuppet school, I was over the moon, but on move-in day I was all a flutter…
That’s why I came up with these 5 tips for dressing up your dorm. Transitions are a little bit easier when you have a space you love to come back to! Follow these 5 tips to make your dorm comfy, functional, and fun…
1. Designate a study space
School is all about hitting the books, so make sure you’ve got a desk (and chair) you love! Hang art in front of the desk so you have something nice to look at while you’re whipping up those papers on Franciscan Art Theory.
Get a stylish case to keep your writing utensils and highlighters at hand.
If you are lacking space, and most dorms are, choose a desk in a neutral color so it feels less intrusive.
2. Swap out your mattress
Sleep is EVERYTHING in school, and cozying up on a flimsy mattress slept on by dozens before you? No thanks!
Swap out your school-issued mattress with a Bob-O-Pedic mattress. You’ll get incredible support, restful sleep, and peace of mind knowing that the mattress is and has always been just for you.
Most schools will haul away the school-issued mattress beforehand—just make sure to coordinate with your dorm!
3. Cozy up your bed
If you want to elevate your dorm style, consider adding a headboard! Upholstered headboards soften a space and give any room an instant homey feel.
Linens are another great way to personalize your space. Choose soft fabrics you’ll look forward to diving into at night. Add color with throw pillows. Vary texture by incorporating different kinds of fabrics. You’ll be the envy of the floor!
4. Add storage
Space-saving solutions make a huge difference when you’re packing seasonal clothes and have limited closet space. You can add storage with a nightstand, desk drawers, and under-bed bins! My Edison Rolling Cart doubles as a fantastic nightstand and has 6 drawers for maximum organization!
5. Spice up your walls
Think about what you want on your walls. Mirrors make small spaces feel bigger by reflecting light into a space. Extra shelving can be key for spare storage and displaying photos from home. Wall art and tapestries make a cold space cozy in a flash. Find pieces that speak to you and go from there!
There you have it! Just five simple steps and you’re on your way to a snazzy dorm full of personality. Share your dorm pics and tag @MyBobs—I’d love to see what you come up with!
