How To: Style Your Bar

Whether you’re living your best Mad Men life, hosting a swanky soiree, or just want to display your collection of tipples I’ve got tips to take your home bar from blitzed to glitzed!

Pick a location

If you like to host the occasional cocktail hour, bridal shower, birthday celebration, or holiday fete, an entryway console can easily double as a bar. Just clear the top, set out some glassware, your favorite spirits & mixers, and an ice bucket, and let your guests serve themselves.

If you’re looking for a more permanent bar fixture, your living room or dining room is probably the best place to keep a bar cart!

Think about color

For a curated bar style, consider featuring one or two colors to bring the look together. My Heckel Bar Cart has mirrored shelves and a gorgeous gold finish. Here we paired it with icy blue accents that pop against the warmer gold tones.

With the entryway bar, we went with a more subtle contrast. We balanced the warm browns and greens of the painting hanging above the console by incorporating similar hues in the lamp, garnish, and plant.

Feature your barware

Ever since the #Mixology craze there has been a marked improvement on the variety of barware you can find. You can get monogrammed, mirrored, novelty, and hand carved bar tool sets. With so many beautiful options, why not feature the set on the top of your cart?

Store your stemware

Keeping glasses ready at hand is always a good idea! If you’re a wine lover, consider getting a bar that can hang your wine glasses. This keeps dust from collecting in them, and as a bonus, they look great on display!

If you’re using a console table as a bar, make space to store 4-6 glasses on top. This is another opportunity to add color to your setup. You can even stack them in an appealing pattern, but that entirely depends on if you trust your guests!

Add a cozy seating area

The bar is often the center of the action at any event—consider adding seating close by! Not only does this give your guests a nice place to sit, but incorporating texture and soft materials creates an inviting environment and balances the style of a space.

Party Hardy!

Now you’re ready for a full house, and fun too! Snap pictures of your styled bar and tag @MyBobs. I’d love to see your take (and maybe steal some of your ideas too!)

I consider myself the luckiest spokespuppet ever because I get to talk about the thing I love the most everyday – furniture! Tufted headboards, rustic finishes, the difference between a sofa and a couch (yes, there is a difference)… I could go on and on. Oh, I just love furniture and I’m SO excited that I have this blog to share my passion with you! It may take me a little longer to create posts – have you ever tried typing with clay hands – but I look forward to talking furniture with you!
