A Tradition of Giving

Giving Tuesday is always one of my favorite days of the year because I get to work with my Outreach team and help put smiles on the faces of people in the communities we serve.

Whether it’s a furniture donation, handing out holiday meals to our military families, or assisting our local food pantries, my team and I take great pride in giving back to our community.

Although Giving Tuesday 2021 is a little different than prior years, I still am emphasizing giving back to our local nonprofits and charities.

Café Collections for a Cause

Melissa Ortins presents a check for $25,000 to Special Olympics from Bob's Discount Furniture.

My team and I are committed to giving back to the communities we serve, 365 days a year.

And we couldn’t do it without your help!

In addition to the yummy treats, coffee, and ice cream in every Café across the country, you’ll also find a statue of a pretty handsome spokespuppet (if I don’t say so myself)!

Said spokespuppet also has a sign that displays the nonprofit organization that Bob’s raises money for. These organizations rotate every quarter throughout the year.

At the end of each quarter, my team collects the money and then I provide a dollar-for-dollar match, for a grand total of up to $150,000.

So, the more you give, the more I give!

30 Days of Giving

Hopecam’s mission is to overcome the social isolation experienced by children in treatment for cancer.

I am proud to once again offer our Days of Giving program to our employees. For the past few years, every employee has had the opportunity to nominate a charity or nonprofit to receive a $1,000 Random Act of Kindness (RAK) check.

Usually, we have had a 12 Days of Giving program, but in celebration of our 30th anniversary, we decided to expand the campaign to 30 Days of Giving.

I was overjoyed to see the response from my employees. Over 225 employees submitted nominations to receive a RAK check. You can learn more about our 30 Days of Giving program, here.

Supporting Food Pantries

Volunteer carrying a food.

This is our eighth year in a row supporting food pantries and hunger-relief programs within the communities we serve. My team and I were pleased to present an organization near each of the 150 Bob’s Discount Furniture stores and 5 distribution centers with a $2,000 donation. In total, Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation donated $310,000 to hunger-relief organizations across the country.

“Over the past 18-months, we experienced a 450% increase in the need for food support, and hundreds of volunteers donated their time to ensure homebound seniors and people in need received lifesaving food support. We are very grateful to Bob’s for their $2,000 donation which was put to immediate use getting critical food supplies to our most vulnerable. Our goal is that no one goes to bed hungry on our watch and we are very grateful to Bob’s for helping us keep our pledge.”

Bob

I consider myself the luckiest spokespuppet ever because I get to talk about the thing I love the most everyday – furniture! Tufted headboards, rustic finishes, the difference between a sofa and a couch (yes, there is a difference)… I could go on and on. Oh, I just love furniture and I’m SO excited that I have this blog to share my passion with you! It may take me a little longer to create posts – have you ever tried typing with clay hands – but I look forward to talking furniture with you!
