Don’t let a small room keep your little ones from experiencing their dream bedroom. With a little bit of creativity and some helpful tips, your kids can have a fun and functional bedroom. And best of all, it won’t break your budget!
1. Go With a Bunk Bed
Here are probably the two most important questions when setting up your kids’ bedroom: where are they going to sleep and where am I going to store all of this stuff! A bunk bed is a great solution for sleeping space especially if you have kids that will be sharing a room. Some bunk beds even come with a trundle bed which is perfect for sleepovers. Don’t need the extra sleeping space? No problem. Turn the trundle area into additional storage. Need more storage space? Look for bunk beds with stairs. The stairway bunk beds provide extra storage space behind and underneath the stairs.
2. Try a Space-Saving Chest
A short, wide dresser isn’t the best fit for a small bedroom because it takes up too much space. Instead, go with a tall chest. You’ll take up less floor space than a dresser while still having ample storage. As a bonus, the height of the dresser allows you to place items on top of it that you don’t want your little ones reaching.
3. Use the Right Lighting
This is where function and safety come into play. You don’t want to put a big light in your kids’ bedroom because it will take up too much space, but it’s also a safety concern for small children that like to climb and pull on items – like anything they can get their hands on! Try a slender floor lamp and tuck it into a corner so it’s harder to reach.
4. Add a Small Study Nook
Do you remember trying to do homework on the kitchen table while your parents discussed their day at work and your siblings played in the other room with the TV on? Yeah, that wasn’t too productive! Give your child a nice and quiet place to do their homework by creating a small study nook. Look for a small desk with ample space for writing and to hold a laptop. Tuck the desk neatly in a corner or under a window and utilize the storage drawers to organize their assignments.
5. Choose the Perfect Rug
Define a playing space with an area rug. Adding a rug to your kids’ bedroom will not only add a pop of style but will also designate a floor space for your kids to play. A rug is soft yet durable, making it the perfect addition that your kids will love!
