How to Set Up Your Mattress-in-a-Box

Thanks for purchasing one of my world-famous Bob-O-Pedic mattresses. Not only is this new foam mattress super comfy, but it’s also fun to set up! Your mattress-in-a-box has been professionally compressed and vacuum packaged. This was done at the factory to allow for easy shipping and handling. Just follow these simple steps to unpack mattress:

1. Lay the Box on the Floor

Even though the mattress is compressed, the box is still heavy, so ask a friend to help you lay the box on the floor so you can remove the mattress. When placing the box on the floor, allow plenty of room at the top of the box to remove the mattress. Try to place the box in your bedroom so it’s easier to place the mattress on your foundation or bed once you’ve taken it out of the box and removed the outer layer of plastic.

2. Remove the Mattress from the box

Now that the box is on the floor, open the top and remove the compressed mattress. Have your friend grab the top of the box as your pulling the mattress out of the box. Remove the box from the area of the room you’re working in so you have space to unfold the mattress in the next step.

3. Remove the Outer Bag

Unroll your mattress so it lays flat on the foundation or platform. Tear open the protective covering.

You’ll see the mattress was tightly compressed and folded at the factory and that it’s enclosed in two bags: an inner bag and an outer bag. A word of warning before you start cutting anything: Use caution so you don’t accidentally puncture your new mattress!

4. Unroll Mattress and Place Mattress on a Foundation

Next, unroll the mattress and place it on your foundation or bed. If you can see the logo at this point, place that end of the mattress at the foot of the bed.

5. Remove the Inner Bag

Again, use caution with this step. To avoid puncturing your mattress, find the seam of the bag and cut from there. You’ll start to see the mattress expanding as soon as you start cutting the bag. Remove the plastic when you’re done.

6. Position Your Mattress

Adjust the position of your mattress on your bed or foundation, then step back and wait for it to fully expand. Due to its temperature-sensitive design, your mattress may need several hours to fully expand (the chillier the mattress, the longer it will take). You might also notice a slight odor after unwrapping your mattress. This “new car” type of smell is completely harmless and will fade with time.

7. Make Final Adjustments

Once it has fully expanded, manipulate the corners and sides to make it nice and square. Now here’s the part you’ve been waiting for — kick off your shoes and test out your new mattress!
