Little Bobsters Raise Over $5K for Special Olympics

While many of us were snuggling on our comfy couch or bundled up in our go-to warm sweaters early this month, a small but mighty group of Bob’s employees took the plunge in the cold waters of Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.

Dressed in Bob’s yellow t-shirts this dedicated group of eight employees ran into the frigid waters all in the name of charity at the annual Penguin Plunge.

Melissa Ortins, store manager of the Manchester, New Hampshire location said the air temperature was a brisk 26 degrees. She didn’t have a specific read on the water temperature but said, “it wasn’t that bad.”

This is the third year the Little Bobsters have raised money for Special Olympics. Composed of team members from two Massachusetts stores (Woburn and Saugus) and three New Hampshire stores (Manchester, Nashua and Seabrook), the team raised $5,329 this year. Over the past three years, the team has raised $16,059.

Collecting for a Cause

Melissa Ortins presents a check for $25,000 to Special Olympics from Bob's Discount Furniture.

Special Olympics is our second quarter Café Collections for a Cause partner. All of the money collected in our cafes between April 1 and June 30 will be presented to Special Olympics. And best of all, Bob’s will provide a dollar-for-dollar match up to $75,000.

I consider myself the luckiest spokespuppet ever because I get to talk about the thing I love the most everyday – furniture! Tufted headboards, rustic finishes, the difference between a sofa and a couch (yes, there is a difference)… I could go on and on. Oh, I just love furniture and I’m SO excited that I have this blog to share my passion with you! It may take me a little longer to create posts – have you ever tried typing with clay hands – but I look forward to talking furniture with you!
