Bob’s Discount Furniture celebrated Women’s History Month by helping to pack thousands of feminine hygiene kits for girls in need during the Wonderfund’s Period Party in March.
Employees from Bob’s stores and corporate headquarters joined the Boston-area Wonderfund in a feminine hygiene drive to support the girls and women of Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
The Period Party brought together women from the greater Boston area to celebrate their service as role models, leaders and philanthropist while helping to provide basic necessities, dignity, hope and comfort to more than 10,000 girls across the commonwealth this year.
As women worked through the assembly line of packing Period Kits, Wonderfund CEO Erin Rafferty said, “This is an amazing demonstration of what woman can do when it comes to helping girls.”
“This is going to help 10,000 girls have the confidence to go to school and after-school activities and feel people care about them and they can have dignity,” she added.
The Wonderfund is a private non-profit organization that works on behalf of the 53,000 children engaged with the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families to provide comfort and dignity to children in traumatic situations and enrich childhoods that have been impacted by abuse and neglect.
“Being able to support the Wonderfund’s Period Party and have employees participate in the feminine hygiene drive was the perfect way for our team to close out Women’s History Month,” said Lindsay Ruszczyk, Bob’s Director of Communications and Community Outreach. “Supporting an initiative that offers basic necessities to girls is something Bob’s Community Outreach and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion teams are honored to partake in.”
During Women’s History Month, Bob’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Resource Group continued their year-long initiative, “Celebrating Our Diversity,” by inviting employees to share stories about Women’s History Month for learning and growing opportunities in addition to attending the Wonderfund event. Earlier in the month on International Women’s Day, the DEI Resource Group sponsored employee participation in Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut’s Women Build 2023.
Bob’s is also proud to share the accomplishments of several notable women: Carol Glaser, Chief Merchandising Officer and Executive Vice President was named an honoree of the 2023 Top Women in Retail report by the Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC) and “Maggie” Kennie, Lead Driver, was named a 2023 “Top Women to Watch in Transportation” by Redefining the Road, the official magazine of the Women In Trucking Association (WIT) earlier this month.
Last year, Bob’s Discount Furniture has partnered with the Wonderfund and the New England Patriots Foundation to refurbish the Old Colony YMCA youth and young adult home in Fall River, Massachusetts.
