Bob’s Discount Furniture was honored to help make a dream come true for a special teenager battling an illness in Connecticut.
Diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at age 15, Jasmine is a recent high school graduate who will remain at home as she begins college and receives chemotherapy treatments. Bob’s Community Outreach team was honored to participate in a room makeover for Jasmine to help make this college milestone memorable with the bedroom set of her dreams.
The Connecticut-based non-profit, Circle of Care, organized a bedroom and closet makeover for Jasmine as part of their Art from the Heart program. Jasmine added Bob’s Glamour bedroom set to the top of her wish list.
Tasked with everything from fundraising to furnishing Jasmine’s space, Fairfield County Professional Women in Building Council (FCPWB) Philanthropy Group, a member of Art from the Heart, called on Bob’s to help provide the bedroom set and pillowtop mattress.
“Bob’s Discount Furniture made sure we received the bedroom set that Jasmine truly wanted,” said FCPWB Philanthropy Group member, Rebecca St. Germaine. “They even helped select a mattress that was soft and comfortable for Jasmine. We can never express our gratitude for all that Bob’s did to assist. They are nothing short of incredible.”
“We are always ready to support the community when a need arises,” said Communications and Community Outreach Director, Lindsay Ruszczyk, “but Jasmine’s donation was even more special because we were able to gift her with the bed of her dreams.” Ruszczyk added, “Having a good night’s sleep is crucial as Jasmine undergoes treatments and we’re glad Bob’s could provide a pillowtop mattress and pillows as well.”
Since 2005, Circle of Care’s Art from the Heart teams have transformed more than 130 bedrooms and playrooms in the homes of young patients throughout Connecticut.
“For a child undergoing emotionally and physically draining cancer treatment, a comfortable and uplifting place to spend their time is essential. This dream-room makeover program is designed to give some sense of control back to these children,” noted Circle of Care.
Jasmine was surprised with her new bedroom over the summer, just in time for school to begin. Jasmine will be studying nursing, with the hope of working with children in the oncology unit upon graduation.
