Safe Haven for Young Women to Open in Trabuco Canyon with Bob’s Support
ORANGE COUNTY, Cali. – December 17, 2018 – Bob’s Discount Furniture has partnered with The Teen Project, a non-for-profit serving at-risk, homeless, and sex-trafficked young women, to furnish all bedrooms at the new Vera’s Sanctuary for Women. As part of this partnership, Bob’s has donated over $25,000 worth of furniture and bedding to the five-house haven for young women between the ages of 15 and 21.
The Teen Project recently acquired the former Boys Town Private Village in Trabuco Canyon to continue its legacy of serving vulnerable youth who are in foster care and have been victims of sex trafficking. On Saturday, December 15th, Bob’s delivered three truckloads of its quality bedroom furniture to the property, including over 30 beds for the five houses. The new and fully furnished Vera’s Sanctuary for Women is on schedule to open its doors right before Christmas. Vera’s Sanctuary for Women – named after the mother of an anonymous benefactor whose donation helped fund the program – will provide therapy, drug treatment, and life support to young women in a beautiful and compassionate setting.
“The Teen Project is excited to have the support of Bob’s Discount Furniture,” said Lauri Burns, Executive Director, The Teen Project. “We wouldn’t be able to open Vera’s Sanctuary for Women and offer vulnerable, at-risk young women a second chance without the help of our corporate partners.”
As part of its donation delivery, Bob’s Discount Furniture has provided Vera’s Sanctuary for Women with their quality furniture collections of Madison Beds, Chadwick Beds, Bob-O-Pedic Mattresses, Midtown Nightstands, Chadwick Nightstands, Chadwick Desks, Bed Protectors, My Bob’s Pillows, and Pillow Protectors.
About the Teen Project
The Teen Project was founded in 2007 by former foster youth, aerospace executive, and motivational speaker Lauri Burns. Lauri was raised in an abusive family and entered the foster care system when she was 15 years-old, which eventually led to homelessness at the age of 18. After surviving drug addiction and life on the streets, Lauri was offered a scholarship for a technical career school. She ultimately founded The Teen Project to provide other foster youth with the same opportunities she was given.
The Teen Project is a non-for-profit 501c3, serving at-risk, homeless, and sex-trafficked young women (18-25 years old,) many from foster care. Its focus is sobriety, education and housing. The Teen Project’s transitional housing is provided for free to their clients thanks to the generosity of people who believe in its mission and support its efforts. The Teen Project can provide drug treatment at no cost to the recipient through the support of the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC,) and gracious donors and other applicable funding sources. The Teen Project is a parent to the parentless providing young women without resources with a chance at life.
