We’re celebrating National Volunteer Month by thanking our employees who have given back in so many ways to the communities we serve.
At Bob’s Discount Furniture, we’re honored to support those in need by teaming up with sports partners, providing furniture donations, and volunteering time.
This year, Bob’s has set a goal to volunteer over 200 hours in celebration of Bob’s opening its 200th store!
As we look back at all the contributions our employees have made to enrich the communities where we do business, we want to say thank you to our employees and partners!
Volunteering: Our Superpower
We’re kicking off our appreciation by highlighting Bob’s recent volunteer event with Rebuilding Together Manchester.
A group of employees from Bob’s corporate headquarters in Manchester, CT, tackled light home repairs for a local family in need.

The homeowner, Tony, has been battling ALS. His wife, Kathy, works near Bob’s offices at Odyssey Community School in addition to caring for Tony. Rebuilding Together Manchester has already installed a handicap-accessible shower, toilet, and grab bars in their bathroom to help Tony. They have also replaced the roof for the home at no cost to the family. Bob’s team of volunteers rallied together to help build a new fence, complete yard work, stain the deck, and erect a shed with the support of Rebuilding Together Manchester. Additionally, Bob’s contributed outdoor furniture to help the homeowners enjoy their new space.
Rebuilding Together Manchester is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to helping low-income homeowners through home renovation and repair. The local chapter is part of the national Rebuilding Together effort that began in 1973 in Midland, TX. Today, there are more than 200 Rebuilding Together affiliates throughout the country.
Good Night's Rest

Bob’s knows the key to successful outcomes starts with a good night sleep and that’s why we are honored to contribute mattresses to nonprofit organizations.
In addition to providing mattresses, Bob’s employees are ready to help make beds and prepare rooms for residents.

Bob’s employees from the Chicago area helped prepare rooms for residents of Covenant House Chicago and Deborah’s Place, in addition to contributing mattresses to both organizations.

Bob’s employees in Connecticut prepared rooms for residents transitioning out of homelessness through the New London Homeless Hospitality Center.
Feeding Neighbors in Need

Every year Bob’s is committed to helping end hunger through financial contributions to organizations focused on ending food insecurity. Last year, Bob’s was proud to share that we gave over $200,000 to fight hunger across the country.
In addition to making financial contributions, Bob’s employees are dedicated to participating in meal packing events and food drives.

Bob’s employees in the New York borough area collected more than 500 pounds of food to support City Harvest, bringing their all-time giving over 4,000 pounds!

Bob’s employees in the Detroit area supported 9/11 Day by helping to pack over eight million meals for individuals in need.
Holiday Helpers
For many years, Bob’s home office, stores, and distribution centers have organized toy drives during the holiday season to support local organizations.
Additionally, teams of employees have organized clothing drives as well as personal care item drives, in effort to help neighbors in need.

Teaming Up
Bob’s is so grateful for our sports partners like the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, the Arizonia Diamond Backs and the New York Giants who have teamed up with us to furnish spaces for those in need.
In addition to providing furniture and mattresses for individuals and families, Bob’s employees volunteered alongside our partner the Los Angeles Rams to help victims of the California wildfires this past January. Bob’s helpers from nearby stores and our California distribution center helped the Rams hand out hundreds of pillows during a community support event.

Bob’s volunteers also teamed up with our partners at the New York Islanders to collect toys to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots.
In addition to supporting the toy drives in Bob’s stores, a team of volunteers helped collect presents donated by hockey fans during the Islander’s annual game night toy drive.

Community Heroes
Twice a year Bob’s recognizes employees internally with the Heart of Bob’s awards. The employee recognition program highlights those who are doing extraordinary things for Bob’s business as well as the communities we serve. The following employees were recognized in 2024 for their contributions:

Louie Manzo, Field Tech from California, is very active as a volunteer through his church, Calvary Chapel of the Chino Valley. In addition to supporting local community initiatives, Louie is a member of the church’s disaster relief support team and has traveled to assist those in need after natural disasters. Most notably, Louie went to Texas from his home state of California, to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. Louie has assisted in relief efforts for victims of wildfires in California as well. Additionally, Louie contributes to Habitat for Humanity, bringing home Bob’s outreach mission that “everyone deserves a home they love.”

Led by store manager James Interrante, a group of employees from the Scarborough Maine store organized and held the first-ever, Oh My Bob! Disc Golf Fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Maine. The team worked with a local venue to organize the event and recruit teams of two players each to participate. Over 50 players came out to play and support the cause.

Maurice Mckisset, store manager from Maryland, is highly involved in his community supporting Toys for Tots, raising money for charity and participating in volunteer events. Along with other members of the Bob’s DC metro-area team, Maurice participated in a polar plunge event to benefit Special Olympics – Bob’s Café Collections for a Cause partner. Maurice also participated in the DC-based, Race for Every Child to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Children’s National Hospital – a Bob’s Café Collection for a Cause Partner. Maurice is always ready to help fellow Bob’s colleagues in the workplace but is equally dedicated to enriching the communities where Bob’s does business.
Supporting Cafe Partners
Every quarter Bob’s fundraises for nonprofits that support the communities where we do business. Bob’s is grateful to each guest for contributing to worthy causes and we’re proud to match every donation dollar-for-dollar. In addition to fundraising for these organizations, Bob’s has the privilege to give back through volunteerism.

Bob’s has partnered with the Special Olympics for over 10 years and has supported local chapters across the country through our Café Collections for a Cause program and through fundraising by participating in Polar Plunge events. This year several Bob’s teams helped to raise funds for their local chapters by participating in Polar Plunge events.
Bob’s employees also participated as volunteers in the Connecticut Special Olympics Winter Games, which takes place near their corporate headquarters.

Last summer, Bob’s volunteers from the Philadelphia area pitched in to help neighbors in need. Over a dozen helpers completed yard work and property beautification for a residential housing facility supported by Café Collections for a Cause partner, Family Promise.
