I’m so excited to announce that beginning July 1st, Bob’s Discount Furniture will again be supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) as my Café Collections for a Cause recipient for the third quarter. What that means is that all the generous donations my customers give in my complimentary cafes from July through September, get matched by my Outreach team dollar for dollar and donated to ALSF.

But the fight against childhood cancer doesn’t stop there! Building on the success of a special partnership I formed last year with Manchester High School, I found another awesome group of high school students eager to partner with me this year to build and manage a Lemonade Stand to benefit Alex’s. Without further ado, let me introduce you to Mount St. Joseph Academy’s Lemon Club from Flourtown, PA!
The woman on the far left is my good friend, Christie Fisher, Community Engagement Coordinator at ALSF. See the lovely lady next to her? That’s Farrah Cosby, store manager of my King of Prussia location, and unofficial Lemonade superstar. Don’t believe me? Well, here she is just a few days after meeting the Lemon Club, volunteering alongside fellow Bob’s volunteers at Alex Scott: A Stand for Hope Telethon.
Farrah is so passionate about Alex’s cause that she rallied 12 of her closest co-workers from Bob’s to answer phones lines at the event. The team had a great time and most importantly helped contribute to the event raising nearly $7 million for better and safer treatments for kids battling cancer.
The story behind Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
In 2000, just after she turned four years old and while receiving treatment for neuroblastoma, a childhood form of cancer, Alexandra (Alex) Scott told her mother she wanted to set up a lemonade stand when she left the hospital to benefit the doctors who “help little kids, like they helped me.” Later that year, she and her family opened the first lemonade stand in what would become an annual tradition and raised $2,000.
When Alex passed away in 2004 at the age of eight, she had helped raise more than $1 million to fight childhood cancer. Her family formed the Foundation to carry on Alex’s fight. To date, it has raised more than $150 million.
What’s next for Bob’s and Alex’s?
Since we’re just kicking off the third quarter fundraising for Alex’s, there’s lots more fun to be had… all for a good cause. Back at my headquarters, I hosted a Free Lemonade Day on July 1. Meanwhile, the Lemon Club is hard at work building their stand and gearing up for its debut at the Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp on August 4.
Then, I’ll keep the good vibes rolling on by inviting the students from the Lemon Club to step up their Lemonade Stand at my King of Prussia location so that Farrah can be back in her lemon-y yellow glory. At the end of it all, Mount St. Joseph’s will host a fun-tastic pep rally to present Alex’s with the fruits (a lemon pun?) of their labor.
Be on the look-out for more updates – isn’t it amazing what a simple cup of lemonade can do?
