Earlier this year, Bob’s Discount Furniture, a Manchester, Connecticut-based furniture company, launched “Celebrating Our Diversity” as part of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts.
This initiative aims to recognize the many diverse backgrounds of Bob’s employees and foster an environment of learning, sharing, and growing.
During February, the DEI Resource Group celebrated Black History Month with story sharing and learning opportunities. Additionally, the group collaborated to select a worthy non-profit organization to receive a donation.
Bob’s Discount Furniture is honored to present a Random Act of Kindness donation of $2,500 to the Black Giving Circle Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. As a recently established permanent endowed fund, the Black Giving Circle Fund aims to “create sustainable change in the black community.” Each year, the Black Giving Circle Fund has a call for grant proposals, members review grant applications and choose projects that can have a meaningful impact for Black communities throughout the 29 towns surrounding the capital city.
“The grants made from the Black Giving Circle Fund support a diverse set of organizations and programs aimed at improving the African American community in Greater Hartford,” said Chris Cloud, BGC Steering Committee Chair.
Erica Bishop, Store Operations Support Manager and member of the DEI Resource Group presented the RAK donation to members of the BGC this month.
“Giving back to the community is one of the core foundations of our company. I am excited and honored that we were able to donate to the Black Giving Circle Fund,” said Bishop.
“Their mission of having individuals come together through their shared passion to not only learn about critical issues that are facing their community but donating money to support programs to help address the issues, is something that is near and dear to our hearts at Bob’s.”
Bishop added, “We hope that our donation will help the Black Giving Circle Fund be able to continue their mission of strengthening their communities.”
The Bob’s DEI Resource Group will continue to work supporting other diverse initiatives through Celebrating Our Diversity this year.
“Our team is committed to creating and maintaining a culture where employees feel valued, customers want to shop and where our community partners feel supported,” Bob’s Chief Human Resources Officer Pat Davies commented earlier this year when the company was named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023 for Diversity by Newsweek.
