It was a New Year and new beginnings for the staff and residents of Hogan House, a Hartford, Conn.- based recovery and transitional housing program for women and their children operated by The Connection.
As the holidays approached, Kathy Savino, The Connection’s Chief Operating Officer, knew her team would need support to furnish its third residential support facility for women and their children. They turned to a long-time partner, Bob’s Discount Furniture, to help create a safe, comforting environment her residents would need to focus on their recovery and long-term goals.
Bob’s Discount Furniture contributed to the program by donating furniture for the six bedrooms as well as the shared dining room and living spaces, creating a comfortable and welcoming setting for therapy sessions, group activities, and daily life. Having comfortable furniture in their residents’ living spaces is an important component to help foster a sense of normalcy and dignity, while offering a place where they can relax and focus on their well-being.

“This donation will provide comfort and stability to those who need it most,” shared Kathy Savino, Chief Operation Officer at The Connection. “For many individuals in recovery, feeling safe and supported in their environment is crucial for healing.”
Alison Friar, Vice President of Family Support Services, added, “At the heart of this donation is a belief in second chances and the importance of community support in the recovery process. With the help of Bob’s Discount Furniture, The Connection is better equipped to provide essential services to the women and children at Hogan House, empowering them to overcome obstacles and pursue a brighter future.”
“We hope this welcoming environment helps make the recovery process more manageable for the mothers in the program,” shared Lindsay Ruszczyk, Bob’s Director of Community Outreach. “It’s not just about furniture—it’s about providing a fresh start. With this new furniture, women and children in the recovery house will be able to settle into their new routines with a sense of hope and security.”
