I was honored to have representatives of my California team help cut the ribbon at the newly renovated Boys & Girls Club Teen Center in April. I even received a Certificate of Recognition for my contribution to the renovation with the pair of giant scissors used to cut the ribbon signed by Chargers players.
Located in the Watts Willowbrook neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, the Teen Center, as known as “The Club”, provides delinquency prevention and youth development programs for children ages seven through eighteen.
In partnership with the Los Angeles Chargers, we gave the Teen Center a complete makeover. The Chargers did an amazing job updating the athletic field and facilities while I donated furniture for study areas inside the clubhouse.
“It’s our responsibility as adults to help these kids. They are our future and we cannot do enough for them,” said Dean Spanos, LA Chargers Controlling Owner and Chairman of the Board.
“It’s all about them and the more we can do to help them, the better this community and better they’re going to do.”
The ‘Charger-ized’ Teen Center is furnished with my Bob’s Keaton Swivel Chairs complete with Bob-O-Pedic Memory Foam, industrial bar stools, and my lamps.
The newly renovated Teen Center now serves as a comfortable lounge and place for educational enrichment programs.
“We are grateful for the generous investment provided by the Chargers and Bob’s Discount Furniture,” said Calvin Lyons, Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.
“This remodeled center will allow the quality of this facility to match the quality of the services offered at this site. Our youth will now have access to better programming, facilities, and technology, which will lead to greater successes at school, home and beyond.”

Along with Los Angeles Chargers cheerleaders and owner, Dean Spanos, wide receiver Travis Benjamin #12 and defensive lineman Justin Jones #91 joined me and my team at the Watts Willowbrook Boys & Girls Clubhouse to unveil the makeover. “You appreciate it knowing I was once in these guys’ (kids) shoes,” said Benjamin. “(It’s great) growing up and knowing that somebody actually cares about these kids and cares about the community.”
Bob’s Big Announcement in Los Angeles
This project kicked-off in August of 2018 when representatives from my Bell Gardens store attended a Los Angeles Chargers VIP training camp event. My representatives were accompanied by 40 amazing members from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach for a fun-filled day with players and cheerleaders. I capped off the day by announcing that I would be teaming up with the LA Chargers to give the Boys & Girls Clubs a ‘Charger-ific’ Room Makeover.
Time to go Shopping!
After the announcement, staff members from Watts Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club went on a shopping trip to my Bell Gardens store. The Boys & Girls Club s of Metro Los Angeles staff members used this opportunity to select furniture as inspiration for the soon-to-be renovated teen center space.
A ‘BOBtastic’ Delivery after ‘Charger-ized’ Renovations
After renovations were completed in the LA Chargers’ offseason, the selected furniture was delivered by my ‘BOBtastic’ West Coast Delivery team in April 2019.
With the excitement of the 2019 NFL draft approaching, I was finally ready to unveil the makeover at the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center of Watts Willowbrook with the LA Chargers!
