Bob’s Discount Furniture celebrated the grand opening of 7 new stores this Memorial Day weekend: Avon (IN), Chesapeake (VA), Dulles (VA), Glendora (CA), Leominster (MA), Springfield (VA) and Burlington (MA) (relocation).
To celebrate Bob’s new beginnings in each of these fantastic locations, two Random Acts of Kindness checks for $2,500 each were issued to two highly deserving local charitable organizations/schools who are making a difference in their communities. Bob’s deep commitment to serving the communities in which we do business is a cornerstone of our core values.

Avon, IN
Active Grace
Active Grace is a non-profit serving Central Indiana with a mission to pull individuals, veterans, and families out of poverty and homelessness through relationships and relationship programming. Active Grace helps those in need by providing them with sustainable jobs, housing, education and life skills through personalized mentoring. Executive Director, Ryan Chapman, attended the grand opening on behalf of the organization.
George Washington High School
George Washington High School is part of the Indianapolis Public Schools’ community, offering college preparatory and career and technical education pathways for students in a neighborhood-focused environment with personalized attention and inclusive support. Assistant Principal Gary Carter attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the school.
Chesapeake, VA
Virginia Supportive Housing
Virginia Supportive Housing‘s mission is to end homelessness by providing permanent housing and supportive services. Founded in 1988, Virginia Supportive Housing was the first non-profit organization in Virginia to develop and provide permanent supportive housing for homeless single adults. Virginia Supportive Housing is Virginia’s largest supportive housing organization and has developed and managed just under 650 housing units in fifteen communities. Major Gifts Officer, Nancy Perry, attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the organization.
Thurgood Marshall Elementary School
Thurgood Marshall Elementary School: Under the Division of Chesapeake City Public Schools, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School serves students from Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The school’s acronym, TME, stands for Together Meeting Excellence. Social Worker, Avelyn Chambers, attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the school.
Dulles, VA
Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue Team
Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue Team provides adoption, rescue and education services by finding suitable lifetime homes for homeless animals, rescuing cats and dogs on death row at local shelters and educating the public on responsible pet ownership. So far this year, Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue Team has seen 366 adoptions. Volunteer Shannon Turner attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the shelter.
Park View High School
Park View High School is a public secondary school in Sterling, Virginia. A part of the Loudoun County Public Schools, Park View serves students in grades 9-12. Its mission is to empower all students to make meaningful contributions to the world. Principal Dr. Jason Jefferson attended the grand opening of Bob on behalf of the school.
Glendora, CA
SPIRITT Family Services
SPIRITT Family Services: Established in 1972, SPIRITT Family Services provides crisis intervention, life skills and hope in order to foster a stable, nurturing and healthy family for those in eastern Los Angeles County. With nearly 15,000 individuals served each year, SPIRITT’s strength-based family-centered approach is designed to increase an individual and family’s protective factors. SPIRITT Family Services staff provide innovative, culturally sensitive, evidence-based and compassionate solutions to children, youth, adults and families. CEO Elvia Torres attended the grand opening of Bob’s Glendora on behalf of the organization.
Charter Oak Education Foundation
The Charter Oak Education Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to providing supplemental educational opportunities to the eight schools within the Charter Oak Unified School District. The Charter Oak Education Foundation is comprised of a group of dedicated volunteers with a passion for the education and growth of all students within the district. Executive Director, Jane Bock, attended the grand opening of Bob ’s on behalf of the foundation.
Leominster, MA
Opportunities for Hope
Opportunities for Hope operates two EA family shelters located in Worcester County, which provide three meals a day to its families. Opportunities for Hope also runs a woman’s sober house called The Elizabeth House. The organization also collaborates with several other local agencies to create a larger and more efficient method to distribute food to those facing this type of insecurity. Finally, Opportunities for Hope provides volunteer support to the Fitchburg Housing Authority’s initiative in collaboration with AgeSpan and AARP to evaluate the community’s capacity to support healthy aging. Director of Shelter Services, Ada Alvarado, attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the shelter.
South Street Early Learning Center
South Street Early Learning Center is part of the Fitchburg Public School district, offering morning and afternoon preschool sessions, along with kindergarten schooling. Fitchburg Public Schools provide all students with a safe learning environment that is free from bullying and cyber-bullying. To ensure a safe environment, South Street has a Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan, which is a comprehensive approach to addressing these issues. Principal Hannah Tumber attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the pre-school.

Medical Care for Children Partnership Foundation
Medical Care for Children Partnership Foundation: The mission of the MCCP Foundation is to provide access to quality, comprehensive medical and oral health care services to low-income, uninsured children, aged 0-19, of working families who cannot otherwise access a medical and dental home. The foundation recognizes through its mission that providing access to comprehensive health care is critical to strengthening the community’s overall health. Executive Director, Marcia Twomey, attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the foundation.
Springfield Estates Elementary School
Springfield Estates Elementary School: The mission of Springfield Estates Elementary School is to educate its students to become responsible citizens in a modern society. The elementary school values the ideas and contributions of its parents and neighbors and encourages their active participation in creating a strong school community. Through a close home/school partnership, Springfield Estates Elementary School provides a safe learning environment that stimulates intellectual curiosity, develops positive personal qualities and well-being, fosters respect for individual differences, and emphasizes high expectations for student achievement and behavior. Principal April Martin attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the school.
Burlington, MA
Mission of Deeds
Mission of Deeds is a volunteer-supported nonprofit that gives new beds and gently used donated furniture, kitchen items, and basic household goods, free of charge, to those in need. Since inception in 1993, the organization estimates that it has furnished the apartments of more than 16,500 families in need, including the formerly homeless, victims of domestic violence, elders without support, refugees, displaced veterans, and the disabled. Executive Director, David McIsaac, attended the grand opening of Bob’s on behalf of the non-profit.
People Helping People, Inc.
People Helping People, Inc. focuses on eliminating food insecurity and financial stress for Burlington residents through their Food Pantry, Holiday Programs, and Basic Needs fund. The Food Pantry allows registered clients to shop for food items each week. The Food Pantry provides delivery services to approximately 40 households who are unable to come to the pantry to shop. Their InGathering program provides needed families with all the ingredients for making a traditional Thanksgiving meal. The Wish Tree program provides clients with young children up to six gifts per child for the Christmas holiday. Each child is provided basics such as underwear, socks, gloves, and sleepwear, as well as three “Wishes” of their choice. People Helping People also provides Emergency Financial Aid – Through the Covenant for Basic Needs program; eligible families may receive monetary donations to assist individuals and families who are in crisis (e.g., loss of housing, fire victims, lack of funds for fuel or medical needs).
Bob’s has also made a donation to Shawsheen Valley Technical High School who was unable to accept the donation at the time of the grand opening.
