MANCHESTER, Connecticut – July 07, 2024 – Bob’s Discount Furniture, one of the fastest growing omni-channel furniture retailers in the country, would like to take the opportunity to recognize its stellar transportation teams during Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Operation Safe Driver Week.
With a growing and dedicated team of 156 drivers, 10 trailer mechanics and 12 support staff, Bob’s transportation team traverses over 12 million driving miles each year. With about 185 trucks and 1,400 trailers, Bob’s fleet includes daycab trucks as well as sleeper cabs capable of traveling cross-country (and many drivers have done this!).
What sets Bob’s transportation teams apart from others is their steadfast and measurable commitment to safety. Bob’s is proud to share that the company surpassed one year without a Department of Transportation reportable accident. The company is nearing 450 days DOT accident free!
“Safety culture in a company, such as Bob’s Discount Furniture, refers to the shared values, beliefs, and attitudes regarding safety within the organization. It encompasses the company’s commitment to prioritizing safety in all aspects of its operations, promoting awareness of potential risks, providing adequate training for employees, encouraging open communication about safety concerns, and consistently implementing and enforcing safety policies and procedures,” said Pete Sorrentino, Bob’s Senior Vice President Distribution & Logistics.
Bob’s is proud to share that company fleet safety manager, Angelo Cosimo received the Illinois Trucking Association’s “Safety Professional of the Year” award earlier this year.
Over the past year, Bob’s transportation team has implemented several new processes to ensure continued safety including recurring driver training, quarterly safety meetings, weekly safety tips for drivers, and safety scores for drivers and the company. At quarterly safety meetings, the team goes over the previous quarter’s results as well as discusses goals for moving forward. At every distribution center, a “safety tip” board is displayed for all to see.
Bob’s has continually scored in the top 13th percentile in SmartWay fleet reporting for its efforts in operating a clean and efficient fleet with the lowest possible CO2 and NOx output, named one of the best companies to work for by “Women In Trucking” 2 years in a row (with voting for the third year currently taking place), and won New Jersey Motor Truck Association’s “Safest Fleet of the Year” award in June.
We’d like to extend our gratitude to all our drivers! Thank you for all that you do to keep us safe!
