Bob’s Discount Furniture, the 9th largest U.S. furniture chain with 189 stores across 24 states and over $2B in annual sales, is excited to announce the grand opening of its new flagship experience in Somerville, Mass.

The newly opened Bob’s boasts 38,012 square feet and will bring approximately 20-25 new jobs to the area.

Nestled among myriad other prominent retailers in the vibrant Assembly Square Marketplace, Bob’s opened its doors to guests on Oct. 21st, following a small VIP sneak peek event, which brought together community members, local dignitaries, media, and stakeholders.

“Our new location in Somerville represents our commitment to offer our guests the best shopping experience ever while also staying true to our core values of delivering value without compromise,” said Bill Barton, President & CEO of Bob’s Discount Furniture.

“We are thrilled to welcome Somerville shoppers to this Bob’s location, and we plan to take some of the innovation from this flagship experience to stores across the country,” added Barton.

Guests can experience Bob’s on-trend furniture in a new way through inspirational room vignettes that demonstrate how an entire look can be created for surprising everyday low prices.

The store offers the introduction of a home decor marketplace filled with seasonal decor and accents that guests can take home the same day.

An elevated sleep center takes the mystery (and the high prices) out of mattress shopping. Bob’s new line of Luxe mattresses featuring the Envy, Obsession, and Indulgence are all offered in the Somerville location.

Somerville also features a newly envisioned motion section that demonstrates how motion furniture impacts not only comfort but health and wellness.

The store is also home to the company’s first Little Bob selfie station inviting guests to share the happiness of America’s favorite spokespuppet far and wide.

“Our new flagship store experience is another great example of how we are helping our guests turn the place they live into a home they love,” said Stephen Nesle, Chief Brand Officer. “It’s also a wonderful example of how committed we are to the communities we serve. As an example, Somerville is the first Bob’s Discount Furniture store to offer our new Plushies for Charity program. For every adorable Little Bob plushie purchased, Bob’s will donate $5 to the Somerville Homeless Coalition.”

Plushies for Charity featuring the Little Bob plushie will be available in Bob’s nationwide in 2025 with a portion of each sale supporting charity.

Like other locations, Bob’s Somerville on-the-house café , will offer free treats like ice cream, cookies, candy, and coffee to guests and the opportunity to contribute to a non-profit through the Cafe Collections for a Cause program with a dollar-for-dollar match from Bob’s. The Somerville café will raise funds for Somerville Homeless Coalition.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Bob’s to the Somerville community,” said Felicity Beal, Director of Development, Somerville Homeless Coalition. “It’s clear they are deeply rooted in supporting their local community and we’re honored to be chosen as their first charity partner here in Somerville. Their support will be impactful for our low-income, food-insecure and homeless clients.”

Bob’s will host a grand opening on November 8th featuring a ribbon cutting and Random Acts of Kindness donations to Somerville Homeless Coalition and East Somerville Elementary School. The store will host community activities through the weekend with giveaways and entertainment as well as a meet and greet with former New England Patriots, three-time Superbowl Champ, Joe Andruzzi on Saturday, November 9th.
