Twelve female executives from Bob’s Discount Furniture marked International Women’s Day by participating in Women Build with Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut.
The Habitat build site located in Norwich has several projects in different stages of completion. The Bob’s Team spent the day working to help complete three homes on the 10-home lot. Female executives from various departments such as human resources, marketing, loss prevention, delivery operations, planning, merchandising and communications joined skills for the day.
Women Build is annual project where groups can come together to make a tangible impact on local communities. The day’s build opened with words from Tara Filip, Director of Mission, Advancement and Integration for Habitat of Eastern Connecticut. The theme of the day, she told the nearly 30 female volunteers, was “empowerment.”
“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish,” she added, quoting former First Lady Michelle Obama.
“Stepping out of the office and onto the Habitat jobsite is a refreshing way for our female leaders to demonstrate teamwork and what can be accomplished together,” said Lindsay Ruszczyk, Director of Communications and Community Outreach. “Working together for a meaningful cause like providing homes for Habitat clients is especially important to our team members,” she added.
The Bob’s team worked alongside other volunteers including groups from Mystic Congregational Church, Centreville Bank, and Birk Manufacturing.
Participants raised more than $6,000 for the Habitat chapter as part of the volunteer event. Bob’s is proud to contribute to the Norwich build located near the brand’s New London store location and Taftville-based distribution center.
Bob’s has contributed furniture donations to Habitat chapters nationwide in the past.
Bob’s Carol Glaser, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer participated in the Women Build event. Awarded as one of the “2023 Top Women in Retail” by Retail Leadership Circle, Glaser is a role model for her colleagues at Bob’s and peers in her field.
Additionally, Sarah Pepin, Director Routing Administration and Analytics and Outbound Logistics Delivery for Bob’s joined the Women Build event. She received an award from the Women in Trucking Association on behalf of Bob’s when the organization was named among the “Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation” in 2022.
