Bob’s Discount Furniture is honored to support Beyond the Blueprint in their recent vibrant makeover of Carpenter’s Shelter – a 64-bed community shelter in Alexandria, Virginia serving individuals and families. Bob’s donated furniture for the shelter’s common area, helping to make the center welcoming to those it serves.
“At Carpenter’s Shelter, we believe that people respond to their environment. It is great to see how these changes add a warm and serene feeling for our residents as they navigate through a very trying time,” said Carpenter’s Shelter Executive Director Shannon Steene.
The makeover was made possible through Beyond the Blueprint who enlisted the help of Bob’s to provide furniture for the reimagined space. The Carpenter’s Shelter makeover is Beyond the Blueprint’s inaugural shelter makeover. Beyond the Blueprint is focused on giving survivors of domestic violence the ability to discover strength and renewal in intentionally designed spaces. The nonprofit is committed to creating environments that empower survivors to transcend trauma and build successful lives by leveraging the transformative power of interior design.
“The beautiful furniture provided by Bob’s Discount Furniture has played a key role in creating a warm and welcoming environment for the residents, making an immediate and lasting impact on their lives,” said Tianna M. Spratley, Executive Director Beyond the Blueprint.
The shelter held a ribbon cutting in December. Local Bob’s employees attend the event alongside community members, city officials, and volunteers.
“Our mission at Bob’s is to help our guests turn the place they live into the home they love,” said Monica Payton, Manager of Bob’s Discount Furniture in Falls Church, VA. “Beyond the Blueprint selected pieces with intent and purpose for Carpenter’s Shelter and the result is beyond expectations. We’re honored to see how Bob’s furniture can play a part in offering residents a place for respite and comfort during a challenging time.”
Carpenter’s Shelter aims to provide its homeless population with sustainable independence through shelter, and housing placement, guidance, education, and advocacy. Each year, more than nine hundred homeless and formerly homeless children, women and men access Carpenter’s Shelter’s services. Carpenter’s Shelter’s goal is to transition its clients to permanent, affordable housing.
