Bob’s has a deep commitment to giving back to organizations focused on providing shelter, transitional living spaces, and wrap-around services for those in need. This year, Bob’s supported organizations serving homeless individuals and families in many ways from granting Random Acts of Kindness donations during our store grand opening celebrations to providing dozens of new mattresses to shelters.
During the summer, we partnered with a Major League Baseball team to furnish transitional living apartments for homeless individuals and families, and we enlisted the help of YOU, our guests, to raise funds in support of housing homeless families through our Café Collections for a Cause. This past fall, we launched our first-ever Plushies for Charity program, with a portion of every sale going to support housing and services for homeless people.
We’re proud of the contributions we could make towards supporting organizations focused providing housing and services to people experiencing homelessness and we’re grateful for the work these organizations do in the communities where we do business.
Acts of Kindness
With every Bob’s Discount furniture store we open, our team has the pleasure of giving two Random Acts of Kindness donations to local non-profits and schools as a way of giving back to the communities where we do business.
This year, as we opened stores from California to Massachusetts, we gifted more than one dozen Random Acts of Kindness donations — totaling more than $32,000 — to nonprofits supporting homeless individuals, families, and veterans.
“Bob’s is committed to serving our local communities and we’re proud to support a variety of nonprofits near our stores,” said Lindsay Ruszczyk, Director of Communications and Community Outreach. “Bob’s is dedicated to supporting many organizations, especially those who share our mission to provide to shelter to those in need.”
A Good Night’s Rest
Bob’s knows that a goodnight’s sleep is crucial to the successful outcomes of individuals seeking housing support. We’re honored to have supplied dozens of mattresses this year to nonprofits providing temporary and long-term housing to those in need.
The Covenant House, which supports unhoused youth, called on Bob’s to support a newly opened housing facility in Chicago. Bob’s supplied mattresses and a team of store employees to help prepared apartments for new residents.
In 2023, Bob’s supported the Covenant House as a Café Collections for a Cause partner, donating $60,000 to the organization through guest donations and a match from Bob’s. Covenant House offers temporary housing, transitional housing and wrap-around support for homeless youth throughout the United States.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, Bob’s supplied mattresses to Deborah’s Place, a shelter supporting homeless women in Chicago. Bob’s volunteers assisted in preparing apartments for new incoming residents.
This past spring in Connecticut, a small but mighty group of Bob’s volunteers helped ready apartments for individuals transitioning out of homelessness in addition to donating mattresses for 12 apartments.
Café Collections: A Community Impact
This year, Bob’s partnered with Family Promise to raise funds in store cafes coast to coast as part of our Café Collections for a Cause program. Through the generous donation of guests and a match from Bob’s, we were able to contribute $37,000 to the organization.
With chapters near every Bob’s location, Family Promise supports families experiencing homelessness.
This summer, Bob’s store employees from the Philadelphia area, volunteered with Family Promise of Montgomery County in Pennsylvania to landscape and beautify outdoor common areas for families housed at a residential facility.
“Giving back to communities where we have Bob’s stores is part of our core values,” said Adam Abbassi, Division Vice President. “Our Café Collections for a Cause partnership with Family Promise enabled us to support unhoused families by raising funds right in our stores and matching those contributions to make the biggest impact. I am also proud of our employees for volunteering with Family Promise, demonstrating Bob’s pledge to support our neighbors in need.”
This fall, Bob’s opened a flagship store experience in Somerville, Mass., and named Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) as a Café Collections for a Cause partner. In addition to fundraising for SHC and matching donations dollar-for-dollar, Bob’s also launched the first-ever Plushies for Charity program. Bob’s is contributing $5 from the sale of each plushie in the Somerville location, to benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Bob’s to the Somerville community,” said Felicity Beal, Director of Development, Somerville Homeless Coalition. “It’s clear they are deeply rooted in supporting their local community and we’re honored to be chosen as their first charity partner here in Somerville. Their support will be impactful for our low-income, food-insecure, and homeless clients.”
Bob’s will start selling plushies in all store locations in the coming months with proceeds benefiting other charitable organizations.
Teaming Up For Good
During Bob’s first year of partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the organizations combined efforts to support homeless individuals in the Phoenix area. Bob’s was honored to fully furnish three transitional living apartments in “The Diamond” – a housing facility supported by Open Hearts Family Wellness “The Diamond” is an 11-unit complex offering safe spaces and life training skills to unhoused families and individuals in Arizona.
