Bob’s Gives Back to Veterans in Ways Needed Most

On this Veterans Day, Bob’s is honored to share several different ways we have answered the call to support those who have served our country.

Bob’s is thrilled to continue a longstanding partnership with Operation Homefront, supporting military families, as well as supporting new organizations like K9s For Warriors – the nation’s leading provider of trained Service Dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD and other invisible wounds of war.

Bob’s is also proud to support organizations helping veterans near our Bob’s locations, through our Random Acts of Kindness donations.

We are grateful to the many non-profits who have given Bob’s the opportunity to give back to our nation’s military heroes and we continue to share thanks to these service members for their sacrifices.

“I am inspired by the work our partners are doing to support our nation’s military members,” said Bob’s President & CEO, Bill Barton. “We are honored to contribute to these organizations who are providing active and veteran members of the military access to affordable housing, support services, and so much more.”

K9s For Warriors

This month, Bob’s delivered 12 new queen mattresses to help furnish temporary accommodations for veterans in the K9s For Warriors program.

Determined to end veteran suicide, K9s For Warriors provides highly-trained service dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma at no cost to the veteran.

The veterans in the program live onsite at one of K9s For Warriors’ campuses in Florida or Texas for 21 days while they learn how to use and live with their new battle buddies.

“Being able to provide these mattresses for veterans in this unique program was a first for Bob’s but also a great match,” said Lindsay Ruszczyk, Communications and Community Outreach Director. “We are incredibly impressed by the service K9s For Warriors provides to veterans and we’re thrilled that we could offer comfort for those going through this program by supplying these mattresses.”

Since launching in 2011, K9s For Warriors has paired more than 1,000 veterans with life-changing service dogs across the nation. The program is offered at no cost to the veterans. Many of the dogs in the program are rescued, meaning both the veteran and dog get a second chance.

“K9s For Warriors is extremely grateful to Bob’s Discount Furniture for its generous donation of new mattresses for our veterans,” said Lindsay Grayson, Chief Revenue Officer at K9s For Warriors. “Our Warriors spend nearly three weeks on campus during the residential training program, so it’s important for them to feel at home while getting to know their new Service Dogs. We take pride in providing our Veterans and Service Dogs with a comfortable environment during their stay at K9s and that wouldn’t be possible without Bob’s support.”

Longstanding Partnership with Operation Homefront

Since partnering with Operation Homefront in 2019, Bob’s has contributed more than $250,000 to support the organization’s programs and services available to military families including critical financial assistance, a variety of housing support, and meal assistance.

Bob’s has supported Operation Homefront through our Café Collections for a Cause program, which is being offered now through December 31. Guests can stop in any Bob’s location and contribute to Operation Homefront, and we will match the donation dollar-for-dollar. Guests can also donate to the Bob’s matching campaign online here.

Bob’s directly supported the Transitional Housing (Apartments) program by helping to furnish an apartment for Felicite Gray, a Navy veteran and hew new baby.

This year Bob’s is supporting Operation Homefront Transitional Housing (Apartments) program, which provides veterans with a rent/utilities free apartment for one year, while giving them the opportunity to utilize both employment and financial counselor services to help achieve stability and chart a path to long-term post military success.

For many veterans and military families, transitioning to civilian life presents many obstacles, including finding an affordable place to live and securing employment to support themselves and their families, explains Operation Homefront.

“Bob’s Discount Furniture and Operation Homefront have a shared mission of supporting those in need with shelter,” shared Lindsay Ruszczyk, Director of Communications and Community Outreach. “We are honored to collect and match donations that will support a worthy program like the Transitional Housing (Apartments), which aims to give service members a path to post-military success.”

Bob’s volunteers have also participated in Operation Homefront’s Holiday Meals for the Military program and Bob’s has contributed to the Homes on the Homefront and the Backpack Brigade programs.

Helping Veterans Through Random Acts of Kindness

Bob’s is honored to contribute to organizations serving local communities near each Bob’s location. Bob’s has a longstanding commitment to contribute two $2,500 Random Acts of Kindness donations to non-profits and schools near each new store we open. This year Bob’s contributed to LINK of Hampton Roads in Newport News, Virginia and Veterans Path to Hope in Algonquin, IL.
