Manchester, CT – December 7, 2023 – Bob’s Discount Furniture, one of the fastest growing omnichannel furniture retailers in the country, recently received Furniture Today’s prestigious “Furniture Industry Leadership” award for the company’s value proposition, performance, and commitment to investing in the community.
The award was handed out at a gala dinner during the Furniture Today 2023 Leadership Conference held at the Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort in Aventura, Florida, November 28-30, 2023. The leadership conference was created to empower furniture retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers with knowledge, networking opportunities, and the chance to explore new horizons in the industry.
Each year Furniture Today recognizes two retailers at the event — one Top 100 and one smaller independent — with a Furniture Industry Leadership Award. The selection is based on a number of criteria including growth, impact within the relevant segment and how that retailer is performing relative to their peer set.
“In a year that saw many furniture retailers facing revenue declines, Bob’s Discount Furniture grew its sales 5.5% to $2.125 billion in 2022 according to Furniture Today’s estimates, moving up two spots to No. 8 on the 2023 list of Top 100 U.S. Furniture Stores,” said Powell Slaughter, contributing editor at Furniture Today. “From its New England roots, Bob’s Discount has extended its geographical footprint into the mid-Atlantic, Midwest and far West, with a current presence in 24 states.”
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award from Furniture Today. I also want to acknowledge and thank Bob’s team of talented and passionate professionals who work hard every day to help our customers turn the places they live into the homes they love,” said Bill Barton, President and CEO of Bob’s Discount Furniture. “Our value proposition is simple: we offer everyday low prices and a value-without-compromise commitment to the customer. We also believe in giving back to the communities we operate in by supporting various social and environmental causes that align with our core values.”
During an interview with Powell, Bill Barton said with regards to how the company thinks about brick-and-mortar and geographic expansion, “think nationally, but act locally.” Specifically, he says that it’s important to know your business model, know your culture and know your value system. When Bob’s goes into a new geography, it’s important that the company’s nationally shared value system is brought to life for consumers in markets where maybe it’s the first time they’ve experienced the company.”
“Continued investment in local charitable efforts help establish Bob’s as a community member in new markets. From the day one grand opening, Bob’s donates to local school systems and local charities, and it’s not one and done,” Barton added.
“It’s important that our national model and values are propagated through every part of the country we operate in and our team and customers feel we are very rooted locally,” Barton said.
In terms of the company’s stellar performance, Barton boils it down to three points: the first two being a resilient business model and long-term commitment to company values. The third, and perhaps most important, is the company’s incredible team of people who, despite the odds, despite what the world throws at them every single day, understands that everyone deserves a home they love.
