7 Must-Haves for any Dorm Room

The start of the next school year is coming up fast, which means move-in days and dorm decorations are just around the corner! For lots of people, that means unfamiliar territory. No need to worry, though, because thanks to my Bob’s Discount, it’s easy to personalize your dorm! Here’s my checklist of all the things you’ll need to make sure your new space puts the “fun” in functional!

1. Comforter Sets

Dorm beds aren’t famous for their comfiness, but a high-quality comforter can help with that

A comforter set is one of the most important parts of a good night’s sleep, right? Well when it comes to bedding, I’ve got you covered! In many dorm rooms, your bed is the largest piece of furniture, so why not use that space to make a statement? A striped comforter set is a perfect centerpiece for a stylish and comfy dorm room, whether your style is bold and bohemian or more reserved.

2. Pillows

And don’t forget to pick up good pillows—choose the right size and firmness to fit your sleep style and make sure that you wake up rested and ready for the day! The right pillow can support your spine and neck to make your rest as healthy as possible, whether you sleep on your back, stomach, or side. Be sure to pick the perfect pillow for you; your body will thank you!

3. Mattress Protector

A mattress protector isn’t the most glamorous item on my dorm room checklist, but it is one of the most important! These unsung heroes wick away sweat and keep spills from entering your mattress, as well as protecting it from dust mites, so you can have a clean and refreshing sleep night after night.

4. Mattress

School-supplied mattresses are never as comfy or supportive as my Bob-O-Pedic mattresses

If you really want to up your sleep game, invest in a quality mattress to ensure that you’re getting your best rest. Studies show that students need eight (or more) hours of sleep each night, so make the most of the time you have by spending it on a mattress that will set you up for success!

5. Area Rug

Now that your sleep space is sorted out, it’s time to move on to the real fun—decorating! Try tying your room together with an area rug. A well-chosen rug can be a great way to cover the boring-looking floors in a dorm room, and because there are so many styles available, it’s a great way to add a personal touch to your new space! Whether you want a splash of color or you just need a soft landing when you get out of bed, I’ve got the right rug for you!

 6. Storage Solutions

Sometimes it’s hard to find space for all your stuff—even when you’re two feet tall like me! In a dorm room where there’s not much floor space to be found, go vertical and try a bookcase for your storage needs! Bookcases are a simple and space-saving way to keep all of your study essentials at your fingertips.

 7. Futons

Futons help to make the most of a small dorm by maximizing space and seating

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m a master at maximizing space (and discounts). That’s how I know that futons are perfect for turning your dorm into a great hang-out (AFTER you’re done studying, of course). The additional seating that futons provide is a great finishing touch that makes your space a welcoming and comfortable environment for you and your friends to enjoy!

Bob

I consider myself the luckiest spokespuppet ever because I get to talk about the thing I love the most everyday – furniture! Tufted headboards, rustic finishes, the difference between a sofa and a couch (yes, there is a difference)… I could go on and on. Oh, I just love furniture and I’m SO excited that I have this blog to share my passion with you! It may take me a little longer to create posts – have you ever tried typing with clay hands – but I look forward to talking furniture with you!
